Kindred Healthcare to Acquire Louisiana Home Care Company

Kindred Healthcare, Inc. has agreed to acquire Synergy Home Care, a home health care provider that operates in 17 locations throughout Louisiana, as part of its overall acquisition of Senior Home Care. Details of the transaction, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2013 pending regulatory approvals, were not disclosed.

The pending merger would position Synergy Home Care as part of a growing network of post-acute care services, as Kindred has focused on expanding its home care operations. Synergy Home Care is a Senior Home Care company, which Kindred agreed to buy for $143 million.

“Both of our organizations are a natural fit, sharing the same patient-centered values. Synergy Home Care is looking forward to becoming part of the Kindred Healthcare network, whose goal is to build out the full continuum of high-quality patient care in the post-acute area,” said Robert Fusco, CEO of Synergy, in a statement. “We believe this strategy, along with our combined resources, bolsters our capabilities as we strive to deliver the best possible clinical outcomes in home health.”

Kindred at Home provides home health, hospice, palliative care, and personal home care assistance in 105 locations across 11 states. Synergy Home Care branch offices, including its Clearwater, Fla.-based headquarters, will continue to operate as Synergy Home Care, an affiliate of Kindred at Home.

There will not be an interruption of service, and existing clients can expect the same care from the same team in existing locations, the company announced.
